How to use it

Fictional sample of five readings in mm. Mean and median: 10.01; sample deviation: approximately 0.015811.

Method

Mean = Σx/n. The median splits sorted values in half; for even n it averages the two middle values. Sample deviation s = √[Σ(x−mean)²/(n−1)]. Range = maximum − minimum. Variance uses the stable Welford update.

Scope and limitations

This is a descriptive summary: it does not establish stability, normality, capability or conformity. It does not remove outliers. Accepts up to 5,000 numbers with absolute value at most 10¹²; commas always mean decimals.
