Resin traceability and drying log

Reconstruct a batch journey while separating setpoints, measurements and missing information.

Who it is for and what is included

Materials, process and quality personnel.

Level: Intermediate. Includes instructions, recording fields, a fictional example and reference sources.

How to use it

  1. Identify supplier, exact grade, batch and container. Link each transfer to its origin and destination; record opening and unknown information.
  2. Record the current material data sheet and applicable procedure. Copy requirements with units and references; do not extrapolate from another resin.
  3. Link dryer, hopper, quantity and period. Distinguish temperature setpoint, observed reading, air dew point and measured material moisture when available.
  4. Keep the time, method and instrument for measurements. Document interruptions, subsequent exposure and authorized blends with their batch identities.
  5. Link the treated batch to the order, mold, shift and samples. Assign ownership of gaps before using the log to explain a defect.

Fictional example

FICTIONAL: batch MAT-DEMO-08, grade DEMO-A, container E2; opened at 07:10 and transferred to hopper T3 at 07:20. A moisture reading is unavailable. A 12-minute feed interruption is recorded at 09:05; its impact awaits review. Order OP-DEMO-8 retains the same batch ID. Elapsed time alone is not taken as proof that material is dry.

Scope and limitations

Does not prescribe temperatures, times, moisture limits or blends. Air dew point and material moisture are distinct data; the log does not certify processing suitability.
